# Your own sending domain

> In Settings → Email Domains, add your brand's domain and create the records BIP shows in your DNS: three DKIM CNAMEs, an MX and an SPF TXT on the MAIL FROM subdomain, and DMARC. Once the status is Verified, choose the sender in Settings → General or in each campaign. Available on paid plans.

<UseCaseMeta effort="nocode" channel="email" plan="lite" />

Your customers open email from senders they recognize. With your own domain, BIP campaigns go out from your brand's address, like `contact@padariaaurora.com.br`, and your domain builds a reputation all its own.

<Checklist items="A paid BIP plan (paid Lite or Full)|Admin access to the BIP account|Access to the domain's DNS panel, or the contact of whoever manages it|15 minutes to create the records, plus DNS propagation time" />

## What you'll get

- Emails sent under your brand's address instead of BIP's.
- Your domain authenticated with DKIM and SPF, with a reputation isolated from other accounts.
- A default sender for the account and the option to change the sender in each campaign.
- Verification tracked by BIP, with an email when it's done.

## How it works

<Steps items="Add the domain in Settings → Email Domains|Create the records BIP shows in your DNS|Once the status is Verified, choose the sender" />

BIP verifies the domain in two stages, in this order:

1. **DKIM**: the three CNAME records. When they pass, the timeline marks **DNS verified** and the status changes to **DKIM Verified, MAIL FROM Pending**.
2. **MAIL FROM**: the MX record and the SPF TXT on the MAIL FROM subdomain. When they pass, the status changes to **Verified**.

BIP checks the records on its own every 10 minutes, for up to 72 hours. Once the domain is **Verified**, the account's default sender becomes `no-reply@` on your domain. Only a **Verified** domain can be used as a sender.

<Callout type="tip">
On the free plan, emails go out from `no-reply@bip.marketing`, with the name you set in **Email From (Name)**. Your own domain is available on any paid plan. See [Plans and limits](/en-us/plans-and-limits).
</Callout>

## Step by step

### 1. Open Email Domains

1. In **Settings**, click the **Email Domains** tab.
2. With no domain added, the screen shows **No email domains configured**.
3. On the free plan, the tab shows the **Premium Feature** notice and the **Add Domain** button is disabled. To unlock it, click **Upgrade Now** and choose a paid plan.

The **Add Domain** button is only active for account admins.

<Shot src="/img/dominio-de-envio/1-en-us.png" alt="Email Domains tab in Settings, with no domain added" url="dash.bip.marketing/…/settings?tab=email-domains" />

### 2. Add the domain

1. Click **Add Domain**. The **Add Email Domain** window opens.
2. In **Domain**, type just the domain, without `www`: `padariaaurora.com.br`. If you paste an address with `https://` or a path, BIP cleans it up for you.
3. In **MAIL FROM Subdomain**, leave it blank to use the default, `bipmkt`. This is the subdomain that receives bounce notices. Change it only if you want a different name, like `bounce`.
4. Click **Add Domain**. The **Domain added successfully** message confirms it, and the domain appears with the **Pending Verification** status.

Right away, BIP emails the DNS records to every user on the account. If someone else manages the domain, just forward it.

<Shot src="/img/dominio-de-envio/2-en-us.png" alt="Add Email Domain window with the Domain and MAIL FROM Subdomain fields" url="dash.bip.marketing/…/settings?tab=email-domains" />

### 3. Create the DNS records

1. On the domain card, open **DNS Records**. While verification is pending, the panel is already open.
2. For each record, copy the **Name** and the **Value** with the copy button and create the record in your domain's DNS panel.
3. Create every record in the table:

| In the BIP panel | Type | Name | What it's for |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Three **CNAME** blocks | CNAME | `<code>._domainkey.padariaaurora.com.br` | DKIM: signs each email and proves it was sent with the domain's authorization |
| **MAIL FROM — MX Record (Recommended)** | MX, **Priority** 10 | `bipmkt.padariaaurora.com.br` | Receives bounce notices |
| **MAIL FROM — SPF Record (Recommended)** | TXT | `bipmkt.padariaaurora.com.br` | SPF: authorizes sending through the MAIL FROM subdomain |
| **DMARC (Recommended)** | TXT | `_dmarc.padariaaurora.com.br` | Tells mailbox providers what to do with emails that fail authentication |

The three CNAMEs, the MX and the SPF are part of verification. DMARC isn't, but it rounds out your domain's protection against anyone trying to impersonate your brand.

<Callout type="tip">
Many DNS panels add the domain automatically. In that case, in the name field, type only the part before it: `bipmkt`, `_dmarc` or `<code>._domainkey`. If the domain already has a DMARC record, keep the existing one.
</Callout>

### 4. Track verification

1. The domain's timeline shows three stages: **Domain added**, **DNS verified** and **Domain verified**.
2. BIP checks every 10 minutes. To check right now, click the verify button (circular arrows icon) next to the domain. If the records haven't propagated yet, you'll see **Verification still pending. DNS propagation can take up to 72 hours.**
3. Next to the status, **Checked _N_ time(s), last …** shows how many checks BIP has run.
4. When the status changes to **Verified**, BIP emails every user on the account and switches the default sender to `no-reply@padariaaurora.com.br`.

If the status is **Failed**, the reason appears right below the domain. Fix the records in your DNS and click the verify button: BIP starts checking again.

<Shot src="/img/dominio-de-envio/4-en-us.png" alt="Domain with the Verified status and the complete timeline" url="dash.bip.marketing/…/settings?tab=email-domains" />

### 5. Choose the default sender

1. In **Settings**, **General** tab, go to **Email From (Address)**.
2. Type the start of the address, like `contact`, and check the domain on the right: `@padariaaurora.com.br`.
3. In **Email From (Name)**, write the name that shows in the inbox, like _Padaria Aurora_.
4. Click **Save**.

This is the sender for every campaign that doesn't set another one. Contacts' replies go to the sending address, so use a mailbox someone reads.

<Shot src="/img/dominio-de-envio/5-en-us.png" alt="Settings, General tab, with Email From (Name) and Email From (Address) on your own domain" url="dash.bip.marketing/…/settings" />

### 6. Use the domain in campaigns

1. In **Campaigns**, open an email campaign and go to **From Email**.
2. Leave it on **Account Default** to use the default sender. To change it for this campaign only, pick `@padariaaurora.com.br` and type a different start, like `deals`.
3. In **From Name**, change the name for this campaign only, if you want. Left blank, the account's default name is used.
4. Save the campaign.

In flows, the send email node has the same fields, **From Name** and **From Email**, so you can change the sender for that node only.
</PlanOnly>

<Copy label="Message for whoever manages your DNS">
Hi! We're going to send Padaria Aurora's emails through BIP, using our domain padariaaurora.com.br. Could you please create these DNS records:

1. Three DKIM CNAME records.
2. An MX record on bipmkt.padariaaurora.com.br, with priority 10.
3. A TXT (SPF) record on bipmkt.padariaaurora.com.br.
4. A TXT (DMARC) record on _dmarc.padariaaurora.com.br, with the value v=DMARC1; p=quarantine; (if a DMARC record already exists, keep the current one).

The exact names and values are below:

[paste here what you copied from Settings → Email Domains → DNS Records]

These records don't affect the email we already receive: the MX and SPF go on the bipmkt subdomain. Thanks!

## How to measure

- In **Email Domains**, the **Verified** status and all three timeline stages checked off show the domain is ready.
- In **Campaigns**, open a saved email campaign, click **Test Campaign**, enter the email of a contact who's already in **Leads** (yourself, for example) and click **Send Test**. In your inbox, check the sender: `contact@padariaaurora.com.br`. Reply to the test to see the reply arrive at the sending address.
- During the first sends with your domain, keep an eye on **Delivered**, **Opens** and **Errors** in **Campaign Stats**.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can the free plan use a custom domain?

No. On the free plan, emails go out from `no-reply@bip.marketing`, with the name you set in **Email From (Name)**. Your own domain is available on any paid plan.

### Do I need to change the email I already use on my domain?

No. The MX and SPF that BIP asks for go on the MAIL FROM subdomain (`bipmkt` by default), and the DKIM records have names of their own. Your main domain's records stay as they are.

### How long does verification take?

It depends on DNS propagation, which can take up to 72 hours. BIP checks on its own every 10 minutes and emails you when it's done. To check right away, use the verify button next to the domain.

### Can I use more than one domain?

Each account has one sending domain, and each domain belongs to a single account. For brands with different domains, create an account (namespace) for each brand and switch between them with the selector at the top of the menu.
